Herfst 1997. Iedereen is weer terug van vakantie - behalve Onno. Die staat te fotograferen bij landgoed Wijlre. 57 K Autumn 1997. While everyone has returned from their holidays, Onno is taking photos at the Wijlre estate in the province of Limburg, in the south-east of the Netherlands.
Na een bewolkte wandeling breekt de zon door boven de Schilberg. Langs de provinciale weg naar België grazen koeien bij een smeedijzeren hek. Het hek is inmiddels verdwenen. 35 K After a long walk, the sun breaks through the clouds. Cows are grazing along the road to Belgium.
When I came here again in november 1999, the beautiful iron gate was gone.
Op een punt met een fabelachtig panorama liep ik een kwartier rond op zoek naar de juiste foto - om die te vinden in de weerspiegeling van mijn auto. 36 K At an impressive viewpoint, I searched fifteen minutes for the right picture - only to find it in the reflection of my own car.
Het Reijmerstokkermolenvoetpad is plaatselijk zo smal, dat men tegenliggers moet omarmen om niet in het prikkeldraad te belanden. Andere gevaren zijn loslopend vee en koeievlaaien. 44 K The Reijmerstokkermolenvoetpad (which could be translated as Rhymesterstick Mill Footpath) is so narrow, that one has to embrace oncoming walkers to keep out of the barbed wire.
Dit hotel bood een weids uitzicht over het Geuldal bij Epen. Ik trof er twee oudere heren die er sinds mijn geboortejaar met veel genoegen kwamen. 55 K This hotel in the valley of the river Geul had a stunning view. Two gentlemen joyfully returned there since my year of birth.
En dit was dan het uitzicht waar ze ieder jaar voor terugkwamen. 33 K This was the view for which they kept returning.
Valkenburg. Bedorven hart van het toerisme in Zuid-Limburg. De stille ochtendzon maakt veel goed. 35 K The town of Valkenburg is the very heart of tourism in the province of Limburg. It took some effort to find a quiet place to enjoy the morning sun.
Vaalserberg - drielandenpunt. Twee vrouwen zijn niet geïnteresseerd in het uitzicht. Ze vangen de laatste zomerzon. 44 K On the spot where the borders of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands meet, two women have climbed the belvedere - but they are not interested in the view.
Ik pleeg mijn auto op de meest rare punten plotseling te stoppen om foto's te maken. Dit bollenveldje, waar niets recht staat, was vast ook bij Van Gogh in de smaak gevallen. 65 K Who could ignore such a Van Gogh-like picture? Well worth stopping the car for.
Mei 1998. Onno is weer terug in Zuid-Limburg. Wisselende bewolking boven het Gulpdal, tussen Slenaken en Gulpen. Op de voorgrond stroomt de Gulp. 61 K May 1998, Onno is back in the south of Limburg. Above the valley of the river Gulp, clouds and sunlight fight an interesting battle for supremacy. In the forefront flows the river Gulp.
De zon breekt door. Op het randje van de schaduw liggen koeien te rusten: niet zichtbaar op dit miniatuur. 61 K On the edge of the shadow cows are resting. Hardly visible on this thumbnail image.
Deze foto van een Belgisch landschap is genomen vanuit Nederland. 65 K This photo of Belgium was taken standing on the Dutch side of the border.
Door de kleuren wat terug te nemen en wat sepia erbij te doen, lijken deze twee foto's van veel eerder dan november 1999. 27 K I like to manipulate the colors. These two photos appear to date a lot further back than november 1999.
Ook hier kijken we over de grens. De kerktoren staat in belgië. In België schijnt de zon. 23 K This too is a look over the border. The church tower is Belgian.
